READER SHOUT OUT DAY

It's Wednesday and we all know what that means.

It is time to tell what you are reading and for you to make us drool over what we are missing. Some of the very best works do not get the most attention. It takes digging inside the self publish lines as well as the New York Times best selling list to find those great reads.

If you have a great reads, please also tell us where to find it.

Now, one more rule--no spoilers. I think we all understand this one.

One more question on the book you are reading--how did you find it? Was it recommended? Did you take a wild chance on it due to a cover? Did you read a book review first? Okay maybe more than one question, but I think you understand.

So, tell us about what you are reading. I'm ready to find the next best read as I am sure many others around the world are as well.

  1. I'm reading Adam Bede by George Eliot. Not sure I like it. But I was trawling my dad's shelves for something to read and there it was. I'd read Middlemarch, which was okay, and it is a classic, so....

  2. Hello Buffy, it is amazing what you can find on your own shelves in your house. Old classic novels can speak so true today and you would never know if you don't pull one down and occasionally read it. I do. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Just started reading Across the Universe by Beth Revis. Granted I'm not far along, but I'm LOVING it and would definitely recommend it so far. The first chapter really got to me.

Found it because Amazon recommended based on my other purchases, and the cover is beyond beautiful so it did catch my eye. Just realized there's a sequel coming out in January and that put me over the moon. Try it!

  4. I'm reading M C Beaton's DEATH OF A CHIMNEY SWEEP and loving it. He knows how to write the perfect cozy mystery to help with the oncoming winter months.
    M. C Beaton lives in the Cotswolds. By the way she also writes the Agatha Raisin series.

  5. Hello Beth, Thanks for inviting me to stop by. For your readers, they should pick up a copy of TIES TO THE BLOOD MOON, a new YA/urban fantasy series.

Here is a short blurb: A teenage girl moves in with her aunt in Alaska after the tragic death of her mother. Soon after her arrival she learns that the things she was raised to believe only existed in fairytales are in fact a big part of her history. When it gets to be too much she seeks refuge in the arms of her boyfriend, only to find out he's not who she thought he was either.

  6. Honestly, I'm rereading JR Ward's BLACK DAGGER BROTHERHOOD again. I'm studying the way she builds the character relationships and develops the world building rules for this series. My next 'study' will be rereading Karen Moning's FAE series. I want to study her technique for her over-arcing plot. Are you sorry you asked? *grin*

From the war-torn streets of Baghdad to the bittersweet comforts of the home front, two wounded hearts navigate the battlefield of coming home from war in this explosive eBook original from newcomer Jessica Scott.

Keeping his men alive is all that matters to Sergeant First Class Shane Garrison. But meeting Jen St. James the night before his latest deployment makes Shane wonder if there’s more to life than war. He leaves for Iraq remembering a single kiss with a woman he’ll never see again—until a near fatal attack lands him back at home and in her care.

Jen has survived her own brush with death and endured its scars. And yet there’s a fire in Shane that makes Jen forget all about her past. He may be her patient, but when this warrior looks her in the eyes, she feels—for the first time in a long time—like a woman. Shane is too proud to ask for help, but for Jen, caring for him is more than a duty—it’s a need. And as Jen guides Shane through the fires of healing, she finds something she never expected—her deepest desire.

  9. I'm currently reading "Wicked The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West." Even though I'd heard of it before and was interested at what I thought was going to be the Wizard of Oz books through the Wicked Witch's POV, I didn't pick start reading it until I saw on an agent's bio that he's the agent for this author.

What I thought was going to be The Wizard of Oz books told through the Witch's POV is turning out to be about her entire life and then some. It's not what I wanted, but the writing is good and it's worth reading.

  10. Lots of interesting reads. I also read several books many times over and over to recapture a certain style or way of improving my own. Certain writers are masters in specific areas.
I love it when a writer makes characters come alive, or paint a certain world.

  11. I'm writing an adventure romance and decided to read 'River God' by Wilbur Smith to see how he does it - how he uses words to create a best-seller. How he uses romance, action, and also in an ancient milieu which doesn't have cellphones or plastic or cotton.
As always he is awesome, the plotting, how he runs action, the way he uses his narrator... it is all educational and above all FUN. At times funny too.
